We are a community band in the truest sense. We are a flat organization. All members are considered equal contributors. We do not have chair rankings or principal player positions. The parts you may play can vary between concerts, depending on the needs of the section balanced with your wishes. The only hierarchy that exists is the Music Director, who makes all musical decisions – and the Board – who manages the organization’s operations.
We expect members to demonstrate maturity, understanding the expectation is that you should be capable of performing the music we program.

Membership Fees
Per season, we ask for a Membership Fee in the amount of $50 to help fund our operation. For continuing members, the Membership Fee is due with beginning of the new season. For new members, the Membership Fee is due upon joining the band. If you join us after January 1st, the amount for the season is reduced to $25.
We ask new members to make a commitment after performing one concert with us. If you need your Membership Fee to be waived due to financial hardship, please

Rehearsals
We rehearse on Tuesday evenings, 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
We do expect that you work on your music at home and that you bring a professional attitude to our rehearsals.
Even though Loudoun Symphonic Winds is an all-volunteer concert band, we can only provide a satisfying musical experience if our members commit to regularly attending rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances.
If you cannot make a rehearsal, please let your Section Leader know. Section Leaders track the attendance of their section members. The overall rule is that dress rehearsal attendance is mandatory and that you do not miss more than two rehearsals for a performance.
If you miss more than two rehearsals or the dress rehearsal, please inform your Section Leader who will communicate with the Conductor. The Conductor will make the determination as to whether you can play the concert. The Conductor’s determination will be based on the section’s needs.
Section Leaders
Every section has a Section Leader. The Section Leader is your immediate contact person for all matters concerning the band and your direct line of communication. If you are new to the band, please introduce yourself to your Section Leader and share your contact information with him/her.
Section Leaders serve solely as administrators: Section Leaders do not make musical decisions. Section Leaders confirm the section roster for each concert. They coordinate the distribution of parts. If in question, they defer to the Conductor concerning any questions regarding the equitable distribution of parts. They monitor rehearsal and performance attendance and resolve issues that may arise within the section.
Should issues arise among members in the section that the Section Leader is unable to resolve, they will contact the Business Manager.
